Today’s data deluge requires scientists to find hidden patterns from huge and heterogeneous data. Data mining methods are expected to provide solutions to the problem, but unfortunately they only produce patterns without any attention to confidence, making it difficult to distinguish significant patterns from spurious ones. To use data mining methods seriously in sciences, they must produce statistically meaningful patterns with proper measures of statistical significance.
This workshop aims to bring together prominent researchers both from data mining and biology to find out new directions in this emerging field of statistically sound data mining.
